Sunday, we recognized high school, college, and graduate school graduates.

Keeping with the idea of how exciting and powerful it is to hear one’s name called at graduation, we looked at the three times Jesus said someone’s name twice to get their attention. Jesus did this to reach out to a person in a time and situation where he had something important to say.

1. Luke 10:38-42, “Martha, Martha.” Being so focused on the urgent that we miss what’s important.

2. Luke 22:28-34, “Simon, Simon, listen!” A warning about overconfidence.

3. Acts 9:1-6, “Saul, Saul.” Do you know Jesus? Saul’s experience shows us that it is possible to be very sincere in our religious practices but not actually, personally know Jesus.
