We are in a sermon series on how we can find our way in life as individuals and as a church. We recognize that the life we long for is a life of meaning and purpose. But how do we find our way to this life?

Christians believe that we find our way by growing spiritually through some essential keys. We looked at the first key to finding our way which is surrender. The first step in finding our way is surrendering our lives to Christ and pledging to follow him. The second key to finding our way is Christian companionship where we come alongside others and they alongside us to encourage and help each other grow in our faith.

Today, we look at the third key for finding our way and that is determination and perseverance. To look at this key, we are going to use the metaphor of manure. Manure is really a metaphor for suffering, pain, and unpleasant experiences in life that we wish we didn’t have to go through. This is essential to finding our way.

Manure, properly treated, becomes fertilizer and great things can grow in the midst of that kind of fertilizer. Today, we are going to try to understand the nature of the manure that happens in life, why bad things happen, and how determination and perseverance can be used by God to transform manure into fertilizer.
