Love Never Ends

Preacher:
Passage: 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 (NRSVUE)
Service Type:

Kevin brought the summer worship series to a close by focusing on 1 Corinthians 13, emphasizing that love is the most important characteristic of Christianity. He apologized for focusing primarily on individual expressions of love rather than the communal aspect that Paul was addressing in the Corinthian church. Kevin explained that Paul wrote to a divided community where members asked “what’s in it for me” rather than working together for the common good, and that chapter 13 presents a “more excellent way” of God’s love leading to church unity. He highlighted three reasons why love is most important: it never ends unlike prophecy and spiritual gifts, it’s the one constant in an inconsistent world, and anything done in love has eternal significance as we participate in God’s eternal life. Kevin concluded by emphasizing that the church’s purpose is to spread God’s love more effectively together than individually, and that when we love as God loves, we leave a legacy that will never end.
