Today, we are looking at a fourth key to finding our way and that is the key of discipline. Discipline is not the most comfortable word because it usually implies something that was done wrong. But that’s not the only meaning of discipline. Webster’s Dictionary has another definition. “Training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character, or spiritual life of the one undergoing the training.” In other words, discipline is something that is done in order to intentionally become what God wants us to be.

For this message, we will use the metaphor of a garden. An amazing thing about gardens is that the stuff we want to grow takes work, but the stuff that we don’t want to grow just naturally comes. We don’t plant weeds, yet they seem to show up. What happens in our gardens is what happens in our lives as seek to find our way. Weeds and insects can quickly take over and destroy the life we long to pursue. What are the weeds that are growing in your spiritual life and choking out the life God wants you to have? What are the insects in your spiritual life that distract you from pursuing the life God wants you to have?
