What’s Love Got to Do with Patience?

Preacher:
Passage: 1 Corinthians 13:1-4 (NRSV), Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)
Service Type:

Kevin began our summer worship series “The Character of God,” focusing on the biblical concept of love and patience. He read passages from 1 Corinthians 13 and Colossians 3, emphasizing that true love, or agape love, is the greatest virtue and the true indicator of right relationship with God. The sermon specifically addressed patience, explaining that patience is defined as resistance to a certain kind of anger (orge) and distinguishing between healthy expression of anger and unhealthy suppression of it. Kevin discussed how Christians often mistake passive-aggressive behavior for patience, warning that this approach is ungodly. He challenged the congregation to examine their own impatience and agendas, asking them to consider who made them judges of supposed-tod0s and to reflect on how God’s infinite patience with them should inspire similar patience in their interactions with others.
